Dear Diary, Roberta Hancock is a rug hooker but she used to be a felted. She has a cottage near here and she came to my studio one day looking for felting supplies and I showed her how to hook. Yesssss! Another one converted. Since then she has made many mats and even sold some.
Last year a woman came from Texas to two of my workshops. Patty Parish Pitts had a few days in between workshops and she toured around. When she was touring around Pugwash she ran into Roberta and they had a great visit together. Roberta even brought her to her house. They hit it off and Patti arranged for Roberta to go to Texas and teach rug hooking this spring. Roberta just arrived home.
Roberta is something else too. I mean she really is something else, she designs our line of hook pendants with the cbe on the back, a reminder to create beauty everyday,

I try to create beauty everyday by just enjoying life, we are so blessed. My dad set an incredible example for me by loving each and every day, he always had a smile on his face & loved people and life. We live on a farm and have all kinds of animals and a farm stand. I photograph our animals and the farm almost every day and post them on Facebook. We have followers from all over and locally. We get lots of comments and Likes. A day does not go by when someone doesn’t come up to me and thank me for posting the photos. Taking photos seems so easy to do, but I realize every one loves farm life (maybe even more from afar). It is a connection to the earth, beauty and the seasons that I can give them every day with only a few simple clicks. Those clicks have since turned into sales since we started making note cards of some of the images. It is always interesting where inspiration comes. Sometimes it is right in front of you.

I spin, weave, natural dye plus raise sheep, angora goats, angora rabbits. I recently added silk worms and rug hooking. I have a day job and as of today 3 bottle black angora kid goats in the house with diapers. They are funny and help us smile more.

As I am rolling out Easter shapes for the grands and great grands to frost I thought of Easters past (alot of them) and had a real chuckle. My father-in-law was a fairly practical man with limited taste buds also. As he sat to the table he said, “Nothing has to taste good here, it just has to be beautiful.” as the table was so pretty and the food all little “pieces of art” as he called each bowl or platter.(He admitted that it tasted as good as it was pretty tho)That year my mom’s mom had died and at this holiday her two sisters who had just cleaned out the house were with us for dinner. They had brought down a beautiful porcelin bowl (along with pieces from her kitchen and dining room) about 10 inches across with a fluted short base which had flowers on it plus the cover had some fancy flowers. It was beautiful. So proudly I put the mashed potatoes in that and brought “the thing of beauty” to the table. My mom and her sisters gasped. I thought–oh, such fond memories they had of other Easters. My youngest aunt with a fabulous sense of humor, snickered. My middle aunt with NO sense of humor went, Harump! and my mother near had apolplexy! It was the chamber pot they had used as kids! Now, I don’t know who said it, but, is not beauty in the eye of the beholder–and that chamber pot is still a gorgeous object to me–granted never graced the holiday table again. Is na humor beauty too?Have alovely, peaceful joyous Easter.

My key to creating beauty every day is being a Hospice volunteer. The patients I have had over the past 10 years, have enriched my life so much. It’s truly been an honor to have been a part of their lives. As they shared with me stories of their life’s journey, I admired everyone’s positive, empathetic and kind attitude even through happy times and sad times. I had the honor of one special person who became my friend and we shared many days filled with conversations and laughter
for the past 4 years. She lived to age 100, and the fascinating part is that she actually braided and hooked rugs! When I visited her, I’d bring my wool and rug to work on. Her suggestions for color planning were perfect. This always made her smile and I was so touched. We shared a special bond that was priceless and one of my fondest memories.

My daughter, Sarah, gave birth to twins on February 15. They were over 6 weeks early. The boy twin died 12 days later (caudel regression syndrome). The girl twin is now home and doing thriving after a month in intensive care. I create beauty every day by taking care of her while my daughter is at work. This little baby is thriving and is a daily reminder of the beauty she is and the beauty that surrounds us.

Beauty is “In the eyes of the beholder” as the old phrase says. Each day one never knows where that beauty may appear,a child’s smile, the warmth of the child’s hand in yours, the chirping of the little chickadees as they flit about looking for their spring mate or the fresh dewdrops on the budding spring branches. Each of the moments, in the blink of our eye, create beauty every moment of everyday. Each of these moments stimulate one to enjoy that moment whether you take that image with you for the day, with the lens of your camera or take it to create something to personally recall that beautiful beautiful moment. YI create beauty in families in my cleaning business. A few years ago I received a beautiful card saying I wasn’t just giving this family a clean house but a breath of fresh air. My husband and I have both worked since our children were born and I found it very stressful to balance work and home and all those responsibilities. The more families I spoke to the more I knew I wasn’t the only working mom out there feeling guilt over not having the tidy house and home cooked meals . I gave up a fourteen year career in long term care to go with my gut and help others in a new way , a way that I also neeed help. I struck out on my own and have built as successful cleaning business .this is my way of creating beauty and I’m proud to do it.

I read a quote recently that said “Be kind to stranger’s because everyone is carrying a heavy load.” I have always tried to be kind to people,strangers or not. Seeing someone smile back or suprised by a complement creates beauty when you are rewarded with a the happiness in their eyes.

I try everyday to teach my three young sons to be kind and appreciate the absolute beauty of all the things around us so many take for granted (the clouds at sunset, the hawk on the telephone line watching for it’s next meal, the cows in the field …I figure if they learn to look for beauty in everyday things they will spread that appreciation to those they encounter 🙂

Even if I am not able to do something creative with my hands everyday I try to be aware of my suuroundings and of the people in my life, greeting them with a smile and hello or a tender kiss to my children and husband as they rush out of the door each morning. I am lucky enough to work with 4 year olds and they remind me of the beauty in each day through their laughter and hugs…just to be still and aware of the beauty surrounding you.

For me,
the best way to create beauty everyday is by having “patience”.
“Enjoy the journey” as they say.
By not hurrying, we take the time to hear and see the beauty, ideas and essences of what surrounds us in our daily lives.
As a farm wife and the mother of 4 children, I was always feeling rushed. Doing chores, cooking meals, attending meetings or sports games etc. etc.
Slow down, take time to smell the roses, because the sun WILL come up tomorrow, whether we fret about things or not…..so why not enjoy?

I believe that CBE is really in the hands of God who has created all things for us. At this time of year in Nebraska we are blessed to have the migration of thousands and thousands of ducks, geese and especially the cranes – Sandhills Cranes and Whooping Cranes that land and feed around us for a few weeks. Sometimes I enjoy beauty everyday more than create.

I have never posted on a blog, so here it goes.
I meet women in their homes, almost every day, as a part of my work. Many of these women have their hooked mats proudly displayed on the floors of their homes and apartments. Of course I recognize very quickly these wonderful pieces of their work or that of their mothers and grandmothers. The conversation brings a smile to their faces and opportunities to reminisce. I love the glow in their eyes and the big smile. We talk about the history of the mats and materials used. I always leave with a surge of energy and a common interest to explore when we see each other again. I always hope good energy has been left behind.

Creating beauty can be so easy in so many ways. Baking cookies and spending time with my grandchildren, taking care of our farm animals, walking and enjoying the land where we live with Rosie our dog and especially the quiet moments at the end of the day with my husband.

Creating beauty everyday started out as a path to finding my way back to myself. In the midst of diapers, strained fruit and teething I could sketch out a single idea, or write a phrase to inspire me in the future. I would soften long pine needles to add one more row to a pine needle basket, or go through flyers to pull out pages for colour inspirations. As school started and I found a few more moments it allowed me time to transfer the drawings to backgrounds and spend a few minutes painting with wool. I allowed myself to paint my walls yellow when I was told the popular colour was gray, and make my rugs in bold colours because they made me feel good. During this time I was hit with one illness after another but for each impediment came another way to express colour, texture and form. Eventually lupus would be the name my problems would wear and so I continued to switch between writing, demoing rugging, sculpting geriatric mermaids and forming multimedia baskets. I entered swaps and challenges for which I made space in my life. I felt alive. I learned to medicate with colour and beauty. I surrounded myself with wools and fabrics that captured my imagination.
For the days when my time is not my own and my supplies sit patiently in their baskets I extend to food and am now learning to make rich, aromatic and beautifully colourful Turkish dishes that I serve while listening to Turkish music. I dream of the Bosphorus and the rug markets. Tomorrow I will go to my closet and pick out the wools I saw in my dreams and let them speak to me and I will forget the aches and pains that are no match for the healing of creating beauty everyday.

Lately I am creating beauty with my venture into improvisational quilting. Part of creating beauty is to help others create. I am sharing what I know about hooking with an old and dear friend of mine who is looking for a new craft. And this week when I am working on my improv quilt, my granddaughter is making a quilt by gluing fabric scraps onto muslin. She loves it!

This may not qualify as creating beauty but I had to share the beauty I saw this evening…approximately 500 Tundra Swans stopped in a field to graze on corn leftover from the fall harvest and to drink from the pools in the fields where snow is finally melting. We admired their gracefulness for over an hour and shared our binoculars with those curious enough to stop. I know that tomorrow they will be gone, continuing their journey to the Arctic. What beauty!

After working more than 30 years, I’m now able to create beauty each and every day by being creative in ways I’ve only dreamt of. I have always loved arts & crafts; I’ve tried my hand at pottery, jewelry-making, stained glass, knitting (and love each one), but my true new-found loves are rug hooking and quilting (being a down-east girl these were around me every day created by my grandmother). Each morning my dog Rose and I walk the neighborhood looking for new ideas to use in landscape or yard art. A new design for rug hooking can sometimes be found in something as simple as the manhole cover on the sidewalk. We pick up trash left behind by a thoughtless litterbug and we even take the neighbors newspaper to their door. I bet they wonder how e paperboy threw it so close without hitting the door

Everyday I create beauty by trying to be the best person I can be. Being a loving wife, loving mom, loving grandmother. We also run our own business, and we go above and beyond to help our insurance customers. The last two weeks I have been helping friends create beauty in the form of a Mall Easter Bunny, greeting children, having pictures taken with them all while wearing a bunny costume. Its great fun. In the evening, I might hook, felt, sew, read, or just cuddle with my sheepdog.

To create beauty every day you need to have the presence of small children. I am a Kindergarten ECE Teacher. There is a teacher and myself who share 23 beautiful children. They all have different personalities and outlooks on life. Each day is special and unscripted. Everyday is different from the rest. Each day there is love and fun in our classroom. We all share experiences while doing circles, crafts, science experiments and even when we share discussion times. They lift you up, make you feel better, and your worries about home, life and family just melt away in their being there with us. I guess you can say, they are the ones creating beauty every day. Creating beauty daily is in seeing and doing.I see the world around me and appreciate the song of the birds, the warmth of the sun, the white of the snow, and the green of the grass. I will put a single lily in a vase and bring a bit of summer into winter. I will enjoy the colours of bright wool and hook a bit, or mold fleece fibres into shapes. I will look at the bare trees against the blue sky and capture the image in my mind’s eye. I light a candle daily and feel a warm, spiritual presence and be thankful.

I create beauty every day by exchanging information about rug hooking, trying to inspire and motivate others to obtain their rug hooking dreams. These dreams can be to create the next mat, to improve technique, to learn a new technique, to sell a mat or stay on track and hook every day. I also try to follow that advice and hook a few hours most days of the week.
I also feel that I am creating beauty every day by making the days of those I interact with have good days. This particularly applies to my retired husband and my Cavalier King Charles dog.

Okay Lil; you made me cry and hopefully I will do better in thought rather than just material beauty. Have crafted and quilted most of my life and just started hooking. In the autumn of my life I find I am gathering things around me that have been tucked away in drawers, old family pictures, treasures long forgotten and especially Mom’s dishes and tea pots. They are beautiful and now I use them and enjoy them and the groups who come for meetings enjoy them also. God Bless

Each season of living brings with it moments in a day of beauty. It can be the gathering of twigs in winter; violets peaking through forgotten leaves; sunflowers towering above our heads; or, leaves floating down to earth. It can be the sweet sound of children’s laughter; a voice whispering a hopeful story; or, the thrum of life’s pattern. It can be the understanding touch of uncertainty that sparks a desire to create beauty for self and for others.

Creating beauty every day involves doing the sublime by virtue of “hooking into” the God of my understanding for my inspiration, because for me this is where it “all” truly begins.
This process for me always involves finding ways to improve the lives of my friends and family in any way I can! But also involves finding inspiration where ever I can find it.
As with Deanne Fitzpatrick, I do find much all around me in nature to provide the inspiration for any hooked art forms and I keep my mind open for that inspiration… I bring my camera with me always to record images for future reference as well!
While it always begins by being “other oriented” the circle is completed by coming back to myself. When you nourish your soul, you can give so much more easily to others, and create beauty every day!

Creating Beauty Everyday – I will meditate, walk and see and listen – the song of a bird, the flight of the dove, the reverberation of the closeby owl as he hoo hoo’s, the trees, the seemingly flat land nearby, the colors of winter and spring pushing to emerge……It is in our interactions with others – our deep conversation where we are sitting across form one another and really learn who one another is.
But sitting down to hook with the ideas and the fibers allows the inspiration and beauty will emerge. I been amazed as others look at the outcome and how the colors evoke emotions within them. I recently got a group together to listen to Deanne’s DVD and hook in your style. The outcome was transforming and many have adopted a new style and have found how color really enriches them. Thank you Deanne, that was beauty being created eachday we were together and it will be long lasting!

I create beauty every day by offers to help and smile. I volunteer at a seniors group every Monday, we do games and crafts. I brought my rug hooking in one week to have a show and tell, explaining how rug hooking began in Eastern Canada. I also knit and crochet, and take art classes; enjoying my lovely companions as we share ideas and stories. My outdoor hobby is gardening and since moving to New Zealand I have gotten very interested in organic vegetable growing. Hence, creating beauty by nourishing healthy bodies.

I think it’s one thing to recognize the beauty in one’s life as it is reflected in diverse ways; the solace of nature, the kindness of a stranger, a lingering note from a melody just listened to, or a new pair of sassy shoes carried home in a bright bag. It’s something else to be intentional about creating beauty however that might be; bringing a dish of something to a friend who needs a lift, creating something with one’s hands, be it a cooked meal, a loaf of bread or a piece of art, or planting a garden. Either way it is something to be celebrated!

It is a natural thing for women to want to create beauty around us, just as our ancestors did when they hooked rugs with rags or embroidered tea towels made from sugar bags. We do simple things, like arrange linen closets, grow flowers and bake bread. We hand-make things of beauty; quilts, scarves, rugs. Best of all, I play with my grandchildren. There is nothing more beautiful than spending time with those we love.

Hi , I love creating beauty every day, and I do so 8 hrs a day 5 days a week, I am a hairdresser and run my own business and have been creating beauty for 30 yrs this June. In all those years , I have never once thought I don’t love my job, because I get to create beauty every day, 2 yrs ago this sept I took I hooking class so I could help my 4H kids crafts class, which I teach, learn to hook, I loved watching them design and hook their mats, I love hooking mats , working with fibres is much like cutting heads of hair, each one is beautiful and different and no two are the same ,happy creating everyday. Hi Deanne – I just got back from my writers’ group and was checking my fb when I saw this notice from Roberta. While I was waiting for the laptop I had been cruising a couple of rug hooking books I got out of the library today. I hooked years and years ago and was just telling my fella that I wanted him to make me a frame if he would and then voila – here is Roberta (who I know from an earlier life) yacking about the same thing. I love serendipity. Time for me to do this again. I’m embroidering a quilt square for our Prospect Stitch & Bitch (Sisters in Stitches) and when I’m done it I’m going to start. I create beauty every day because that is what us beings do – so natural and nice – I do it by taking photos, writing poetry, plays and novels, working with adolescents, making dinner, a bed, my mind – by staying awake and inviting others to do so. Oh and clowning … Now I’m going to spend a little time on your site and put off bed for a bit.

I believe that all women especially create beauty every day with their generosity love and caring that they shower their families . Women accomplish so much during their daily routines by caring for their families and showing productivity with their careers . All to often we forget about our own desires to create and take time for ourselves. Every generation of women deal with the balance of. Work family and their own creative needs. So your question of what I do is I honor my own creative spirit with simple things that I can fit in daily…….cooking, writing a letter, cleaning a closet saying a kind word and of course finding time to craft. I love those moments in my studio and I get lost…..I love fiddling around with my textiles paint beads or just reading a craft magazine…. Thank goodness my husband has always supported my needs and realizes that I need that time to create…….today I’m teaching adult art classes to adults and it is opening so blessing of sharing my creativity with others. So I have come full circle with my beauty and I never know where it will take me

I create beauty everyday when I sing a lullaby to my son at bedtime and then hold his little hand while we thank God for all the people we love and for bringing us together as a family. It’s not beauty you can see, but it’s beauty of the heart and soul which is priceless 🙂

Creating beauty everyday is a necessity of the soul. I love hooking and most other needle arts. If I’m not hooking then I’m working at making Art Dolls. If I’m not doing that I’m working in my garden, or rearranging my space at the Redmond Antique Mall, here in Central Oregon. I love your blog and get much inspiration from following it………Thanks!

I recently moved to a resident-owned Sr. mobile home park and started a small container garden out in our very small back yard. I planted herbs, vegetables and flowers, which are tucked away throughout the lot. Everything is just started to grow and flower and my neighbors have started noticing what I am planting.
I seem to be converting several people near us because they are starting to plant around their small lots, which so I have been told, no one was interested enough to do so before. The park was established in the late 70’s and there are quite a few people that are in their late 70’s and 80’s that do basically nothing but sit in their homes all day . Many of them have stopped by, asking about what we are planting and taking an interest in container gardening and I also noticed a few new planting of herbs and vegetables in containers around several of the homes throughout the park. It is gratifying that not only are we beautifying our home, but we are helping to spark some interest in getting out, enjoying fresh vegetable and herbs and prettying up their areas as well. Now, next on the agenda is to start a rug hooking class in our community clubhouse.

I don’t know that I create beauty every day, but I try to make each day count, if only to smile and say a nice word to someone I pass. I try to look on the bright side of the coin and pass it on to others. I knit as well as hook (also quilt some) so I am busy most of the time. I try to encourage others around me about their projects even though some think theirs is not worthwhile. Everyone has different talents and we should try and appreciate them for what they do best. I too love the pendants and would be honored to wear one. When they are offered for sale, I will be there!

I just love creating. It is innate with me. I have done so many different things…painting, quilting, knitting, need work, tatting, woodwork, polymer clay, jewelry making as well as rug hooking. I usually design. My own patterns, ut I did purchase a pattern from Deanne which I love. Xo

I don’t strive to create beauty but possibly in the home that I keep ~ I love our home and love that it is a comfortable cozy place to come to ~ possibly that is the beauty I create. Hello, yes, creating beauty every day. That has been on my mind since I first read Deanne’s blog with it highlighted about 1 1/2 years ago. I knit, hook, sketch or play my Irish music every day but I also work with 4 and 5 year olds. And they are a beautiful thing to behold. Almost always! Not this afternoon, when I checked on the Kindergarten bathroom and happened upon 2 (!!) boys in there, mooning each other!! Yes, that required a letter but when you really think about it. The experimenting, the checking out ideas, the naivety of the 4 year old understanding and questioning…. well, maybe beauty isn’t the word but surely precious and full of wonder are words we could use. And on Friday, I worked in another Kindergarten room where I ensured a great day, with lots of fun, in my morning message, “cause I’m kinda a kooky teacher!”. (It was the first time they’d met me. I’m a supply teacher). One little 4 year old erupted with a huge smile, bursting with excitement “Oh, I love cookie teachers!!!! They’re sooo delicious!”, licking his lips. IT’s moments of beauty like this that I live for. And keep teaching for. Even though I’m 66 and feel often simply too old for it all. I also read a wonderful book to another class this morning called “Yo! Yes!” and it was full of wonderful images of two kids, one black, one white, that I wanted to sketch immediately! For my “Hooking People into Rugs” on-line course that I am engaged in right now. I wanted to steal the book! Beauty and inspiration, every day. I need to live it and remember it to keep myself happy, and even my head above water at times!

Every morning I go downstairs to my lower level studio and work on my rug hooking projects or knitting shawls for Boulder hospice patients. If perchance all my projects are complete I then spend creative time picking up and making the studio ready for the next creative project. Sometimes I even get inspired for some creative cooking. Several years ago I found that if start really looking at the world around me, I find joy and beauty everywhere, even in the smallest of things. Instead of looking in a negative light, put a positive spin on it. It always amazes me how a little humor can lighten a situation. I also found that joy is infectious, and that is beautiful

I am not sure I create beauty every day but I see it all around me and it inspires me to be thankful for each moment of my life, for my amazing husband, our children and grandchildren. Being thankful and happy for the blessings the Lord has given me, inspires me to share my time and energy with others. I visit elderly people in my church community who are not able to go to church. I bring them communion, listen to their stories and I make them smile. Their faces are so beautiful to me. I guess that is how I create beauty in their lives almost every day. I also love to hook rugs and Deanne has been a huge inspiration. Deanne has put a smile on my face too.

I am a restless soul if I am not doing something creative. I even find walking the dogs very meditative…gives me lots of time to get into the “what if”mode. So if I am not creating something with my hands …I am creating something in my mind.

Deanna, I LOVE your website, your freebies on how to hook, your incredible women and Nova Scotia scenes. Would love the opportunity to sit at your feet all day for a week and just absorb! Meanwhile, create beauty everyday is an incredible mantra. We all have the potential to do this, but on rare occasions, I feed the mean and ugly dog instead of the beautiful one!
Meanwhile, I try to wake up each day with “good morning, GOD” instead of “good God, it’s morning” and a smile. I love hooking, needle punching, weaving, and knitting and try to do some every day. I love the opportunity to do classes for others, and presentations for fiber art novices. I believe the closest we can get to a benevolent supreme Being is in co-creating, and in sharing what we’ve learned. Your example is an inspiration! Keep on keeping on spreading beauty where ever and when ever you can.

I just met Roberta in Texas earlier this month and loved her work – mosly sold out by the time I got to her! I do work with my hands everyday to create beauty whether it be rug hooking, needlepointing, knitting, quilting, cooking – you will create beauty in anything if you open your heart to it and the simplest way is to smile and say hello to a neighbor or a stranger if you’re out somewhere, to pet an animal, hug a child, enjoy nature and slow own to enjoy life in general. CBE is a great philosophy to live my daily life by!

I, too, believe that beauty should be part of every day. Every morning when I go out to open up the hen house I look at the sunrise and give thanks. I like to bring beauty indoors and create vignettes throughout my house using natures bounty. It might be twigs and stones in the winter, flowers in the spring and summer, or colorful leaves and tree nuts in the fall. There is beauty in everything around us!

One simple thing I do is that every morning after I walk our dog, I stop to pull a few weeds in the flower beds. It keeps me in touch with what the garden is doing, and I like doing that better than spending an entire day pulling several weeks worth of weeds!

I try to create beauty everyday by being kind to others, saying Thank you, complementing my friends, being kind to strangers, helping people I come in contact with and trying to have a positive attitude every day. Additionally, I hook, even if just a few minutes, every day and I make a lot of beaded jewelry too. You just can’t have enough beauty in your life!!!

Thanks Deanne for all the inspiration you create in your readers. I think “CBE” should be inscribed in every corner of our lives because it is such a beautiful concept. I love the necklace and will buy it when it is offered. I think of all the lost opportunities of CBE in my life and hope that from this moment I will do my utmost to make my life and all those I am in contact with touched by what Beauty I can create. Like Claire Q. I also make quilts for cancer patients within Victoria’s Quilts, and have done so since 2003. It is a great organization. Our Okotoks group of friends has sent out 2000 quilts since we started in 2003. The messages we receive from cancer patients are most gratifying. Goodluck to the winner of this beautiful pendant.

Just recently I have been diagnosed again with breast ca, to my dismay. I have never been so depressed and disgusted, then I reunited with my friend who is a “Hooker” and started to hook again. I learned years ago, but it never felt rewarding at that time. Now it is different, it means something different to me. When I hook I go for the colors to create beauty and catch someones eye and make a statement. My work is happy and will live on to show that our lives mean something and that while we are here we can “make a difference in everything that we do” Creating beauty is contagious,as when I bring in my work to friends, they get excited and start to talk about their creations. It becomes a discussion that spreads joy and individual expressions of creativity. I will continue to “hook” and create beauty as no one is promised tomorrow, “spread joy and kindness today” and make this a better world for all of us, for as ever long as we have, make the best out of each day!

Each day I try to do something for my family, friends or the kids that I work with that will bring them joy. Over this cold winter I have been drawing with the kids over the recess period and it has been wonderful watching their confidence soar.

I haven’t been able to hook for quite a while due to osteoarthritis in my hands, but I had surgery to repair my left thumb joint, and will have the right one done in the fall. I hope and expect to return to hooking next spring. I take my life one day at a time, and try to create beauty by encouraging myself to overcome my challenges, to treat everyone with kindness, and to be thankful for what I have. I’m a musician and have recently been able to start playing again – just my penny whistle for now, and when my hand improves I can get back to my Irish flute. I play for my baby grandson, whose face lights up to hear the music. Today he reached out for me, and when I held him, he wrapped his arms around my neck. Right now, he and my daughter create beauty every day for me.

I’m not sure if I create BEAUTY every day, but my mind is always in creative overdrive. When I’m not rug hooking, knitting or immersed in some form of fibre art, I switch into my alter ego the DIY Nightmare Diva. What I lack in knowhow I make up for in enthusiasm. I repurposed my front door into a headboard as an example. So far, I still have all of my fingers & haven’t burned the house down. It’s all good!

I try to create beauty every day in helping others when I can. I love to hook but go in binges then knitting, or sewing creep in then I am off again on a hooking period. I have just created the first of 2 butterfly chair pads for someone. They will go to Asia to adorn matching butterfly chairs. I also created a wall hanging for a Fundy Peace Foundation home in Kenya to represent the efforts of our 2 countries in helping HIV affected children. I love the ideas that your theme of create beauty every day implies, ie., for each of us every day that is unique striving.

I am an artist at heart and see the world through eyes that look for beauty and color. I am now very busy each day taking care of my husband who’s had a serious stroke, and my father, who has been recently widowed. They are a joy to me, but I seldom have time to paint or work with fiber or fabric. I have discovered that I can find joy in creating fun and laughter for them, and that smiling faces are the greatest beauty I can hope to create each day.

I can’t clean my house. This is an impossible task! I enter a room. The sunlight is casting a light which must be acted upon. Forget that I just entered the room to get the dust mop! A spot of beauty must be created and then I have to photograph it! Cleaning is a task! Creating Beauty is divine! Do I need an attitude change?

I work in a sea of cubicles. Everything is beige and boring. Over the years I have saved old calenders and have put the pictures up in my cube to cover every surface – think Maude Lewis. It has now become a collage of colour and pictures. New people stop by and usually ask about the knitting I keep at my desk to work on during long meetings or at lunch. A few now have lunch with me and bring their own craft to work on.

I try to remind myself every day that there is beauty in the world. I sometimes feel so swamped and busy with commitments that it’s easy to complain about weather, busy-ness, etc. But I have beautiful large windows in my living room which overlook a field. No matter how busy I am, I try to take a few minutes every day to look out my window and appreciate the beauty. Sometimes it is the beauty of lazy fat snowflakes landing on the spruce trees. Sometimes it is a little chickadee or junco flitting around my yard. Once, I spent an entire morning watching a fox frolicking in the field. Sometimes it’s as simple as a cloud, or the greening of the trees, or a flower in bloom. I think that intentionally trying to find beauty around you every day goes a long way to making us more beautiful people on the inside.

I don’t always have time lately to hook or crochet,or embroider. but I DO have my imagination to dream up lovely things I want to make. I am really trying to live by the adage of to have nothing in your home that is not useful or beautiful! Whether it is a charming old china cream pitcher to hold my toothbrush, or a scented candle lit on the table, there IS beauty in the ordinary! The view outside my window in the early morning, or my cat’s golden eyes–there is beauty everywhere!

I write in my journal every morning and give thanks for all the blessings I have in my life including my love of rug hooking. Doing this helps me to creates beauty for myself every day and for others too I hope! I also volunteer my time once a month to help complete quilts at the Victoria’s Quilts chapter in my area. These beautiful quilts are donated to patients suffering from cancer to use during treatments or just to keep warm. It also helps them to know that they aren’t isolated and that all of folks who participated in the creation of these lovely quilts are thinking of them and hoping only the best for them.

I am driven to create every day. I can’t help it. My mind is always racing with ideas and I have to get them out. The most important thing I do in creating, I think, is to put love into all of it. I have six children, and they need that beauty everyday, whether it is in creating meals, solving problems or telling stories of our day. I crave creativity the way I crave air. But hooking or any other artistic endeavor often has to be postponed or put off altogether. I have realized that making a home and food and giving my children an education is another form of creativity. And that is enough.

Creating Beauty Everyday –
I suppose it depends on the day. Some days it might be through art, in my case hooking or writing or helping others to write better. Another time it might be raising money for a good cause or just spending time with someone. Then there’s being still, listening or at least not making mess. I have a 15-year old daughter. Sometimes beauty is just the avoidance of ugliness in our house.

I try to create beauty every day by surrounding myself with textures and beautiful pieces. In my office I have a hooked rug and pillow and a print of Monet. I love to wear one piece of special jewellery or clothing such as a hat or scarf in beautiful colours. I find I appreciate all of this and so do the people who come through my office.

I do my best in everything I touch to leave fingerprints of beauty… in my handwriting, how I set my table, fold laundry, leave items on my desk.. the list is endless. I have always believed details matter and are the finishing touch. Others may never notice, but in my experience it seems it is a quality that adds celebration to the everyday.

I can attest to the fact that Pat Probst takes great and loving care when she serves you. It is one of the joys of eating at her home. Beauty is created with our hands but also with our hearts. While I may not get to hook, cross stitch or weave everyday due to working full time and having 3 kids, I strive to be the best Mom possible to my children. I’m their number one fan and believe that my Purpose in Life is raising 3 responsible, caring people. I may be a little biased, but I believe I am creating 3 beautiful children everyday. How do I create beauty everyday? One thing I do everyday is to make my bed. It makes me feel good and the room looks more inviting. While I don’t do this everyday, most days I spend helping someone, whether it’s helping my daughter with my grandchildren or giving a ride or visiting a housebound friend. Then their is my fiber activities, I work on something almost everyday, making a quilt for someone, knitting a sweater, etc.or yes right now rug hooking. for sure i can do better and this question makes me think about what else I can do..Thank-you for this opportunity. I lost my husband to dementia. It was difficult to even comprehend creating beauty for a while but we are survivors and now that I have the time and opportunity to see through my own eyes I am finding beauty all around me. Now trying to capture that and hooking it into a mat has been my salvation.

I create beauty everyday with my smile. I try to never see a child that I don’t give them a sincere….look you in the eye…..smile. Who knows the effect? But usually it gets a positive response. The beauty is in the giving….any return is icing on the cake.

I’m not reading any posts until I write mine! I love the create beauty everyday theme. I live by it. I always have but just didn’t realize it. To create beauty everyday I often try to smile at people and be helpful when I can & say something nice. I grow flowers and a garden every summer. I buy flowers for my table when it’s winter here. I paint rooms in my house often. I paint tables and chairs when I need a change. I hook rugs. I make jewelry. I keep chickens and angora rabbits. I try to stay connected to the earth, the seasons and the circle of life going on around me. I take a bath almost everyday-sometimes with candles-sometimes with wine-sometimes with 3 year old twins… I sit in the sun when I can. I get outside to play when I can. I surround myself with colors I love to see and textures I love to feel. And then I try to be present and enjoy every minute of it all!

“CBE”- I’m a passionate rug hooker and love to spend time daily working on my present mat which always turns out to be my favorite mat til I start the next one…I’ve been struggling with how to CBE for the last couple months since I was diagnosed with carpel tunnel and waiting for surgery. At first I was very frustrated and discouraged not being able to hold a hook or even a pencil to sketch and tried to hook with my other hand without much success. Now I’ve come to terms with this temporary physical setback and have found new and exciting ways to CBE. my mind is on overdrive planning my next projects , baking wonderful new inspired recipes, walking in our sugar woods to our boiling house where the smell of the newly boiled sap wafts through the air, imagining the face of my new unborn grand child ! What a gift I’ve been given , the opportunity to discover a whole new world of CBE! Namaste

I have enjoyed so much this winter, hooking a rug of the lighthouse in our town. Then my 9 year old grandaughter designed one for me, which I am currently hooking. As I sit by the window hooking I can’t wait to get out and tidy up my flower gardens. The daffodils and tulips are trying so hard to grow. That is how I try to bring beauty to everyone who passes by our home.

After the loss of my Mother on Dec. 31st of this year, I reflect everyday on how to make things better, my Mom was a wonderful kind soul whose motto was: ” I want to live simply, so that others can simply live”. I have taken this to heart and try each day to live simply and create beauty as well. Be it working on the knitted blanket for my first grandchild or sifting through the hundreds of buttons that came to me (from Mom) to make bracelets for family members, the feel and texture and colors of the materials I use, bring a feeling of peaceful simplicity…. Live simply, so others may simply live, create beauty everyday…..

I believe that as Co-creators of our lives, we are happiest when we create. We are in harmony, not only with our higher inner being, but with the Oneness of the Universe when we create. Does that mean that we all have to be a VanGogh or an Emily Dickinson – no. For even doing your everyday house work is a form of creation if you choose to view it that way. When you clean your floors, you are creating a clean space for your children to play on; when you cook dinner, you are creating a healthy meal for those you love – etc. It is all how you choose to perceive it. Creating beauty everyday is so easy to do for all creation is beautiful, everything we create is beautiful simply by its existance and having been brought into the physical realm. In addition to creating beauty by completing my housework (lol); I also am a rughooker; a felter; a knitter; a poet; and most beautiful of all a Life Coach. In my work as a Life Coach, I assist others to create beauty in their lives by assisting them to learn to heal themselves and shift their perspective so allow them to find beauty in all that they do and create. It is the most rewarding job I have ever had, and I love it. I love creating and assisting others to create as well.

I thought about this before I read Mabel’s reply…and then, once I did, I had to write too. I think I was a magpie in an earlier life because I like sparkly things and I always wear bracelets. I think they brighten me up and they all have a story which I’m always happy to tell. I’m just back from visiting my father-in-law in Alberta who is in the latter stages of Alzheimers. He is a dear guy and even in his current condition, it makes me happy to be with him. So today, I’m wearing his old gold watch as a bracelet. It doesn’t work, but it has some sparkle to it still…and it reminds me of him. It’s my small connection and it makes the day better….more beautiful.

I try to create beauty everyday by using my hands, in one way or another. Last night, I gifted a pair of my hand-knitted socks to my Uncle on his 74th birthday and he was so pleased that he put them on right away, which naturally made me very happy. I meet my fellow rug-hookers every Monday and even when I’m in a bit of a rug-hooking slump, which I am at the moment, I’m with others who are creating beautiful things around me and so, they inspire me. I hope I create beauty with my music when I play my fiddle–I know it makes me happy and stirs my soul. Thanks for your always thoughtful blog and to Roberta for offering her exquisite pendant.

What a lovely idea – aren’t we fortunate readers? I love the idea of ‘create beauty everyday’ because it’s something everyone can do, expressing themselves in their own way. Yes, I’m a rug hooker but I can’t get to hooking every day. I also try to create beauty with the words spoken to family, friends, co-workers and complete strangers; by baking treats for my family, colleagues and community at large (for a monthly event); by feeding birds to keep them in our garden for all to enjoy; by sending notes and little treats to pen pals and fellow hookers; and whatever other ways I can think to do so. There’s too much negativity, violence and hatred in the world, so it’s good to see some people trying to infuse beauty into the world instead.

If I am not hooking, I am working on my wool quilt with embroidery embellishments. The wool quilt is a great way to use up bits and pieces of wool left over from my hooking projects. The projects bring together wool, cotton, yarn, silk and on and on. Creating Beauty Everyday is a wonderful phrase to keep us grounded.

I believe creating beauty everyday is not only to create inspired rugs and art but is in everything you do through out the day. I take time for myself each morning to look at what I appreciate and to be centered. From this I can greet the day fully by being aware of beauty around me to create either a beautiful rug, to create beauty with kindness and my full attention to each person I meet, to what I wear or making a good meal, etc. Creating Beauty Everyday is so important. If something inspires me or I can inspire someone else to Create Beauty Everyday then the world would be a better place.

Roberta, the pendant is lovely, and whether I win this drawing or not, I will have one someday and wear it as I create beauty in our lives! Thank you for this opportunity :-). I haven’t begun hooking yet, but have the beginnings of a good stash of wool, a hook and a frame at the ready. In the back of my mind hooking techniques and design ideas are bubbling and stirred every time I read the blog. The first time you wrote Create Beauty Everyday, Deanne, I wrote it on a hot pink sticky note which is on the mirror I see as I leave our bedroom each morning. It reminds me to SEE beauty in every single thing, which inspires me to CREATE beauty in all that I do. Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder sometimes, but when we take pleasure in the beauty we create, our joy infuses those we meet that day and in that way, each bit of created beauty becomes a blessing to others. Today I plan to begin creating beauty by designing and making a necklace for an upcoming craft sale. Then I plan to spend some time outside looking for crocus popping up where the snow has melted away, and then create beauty by clearing some plant trash from the emerging flower bed, which is a real ‘bed’ with old iron head and foot boards. Each day brings its own opportunity to create beauty: straightening and cleaning my home, rearranging treasures, lining up my jars of herbs, displaying supplies in my craft workspace, choosing food to cook then arranging it like a piece of art on the plate…Thank you for the reminder and the inspiration, every day, to see, appreciate, create and share the beauty around us!

As much as I love to hook rugs and mats, I have been in a hooking slump for several months. Because of this, the beauty I create lately is in my mind. Last night I created a native mask mat using some New Zealand cotton fabric I have for the color plan and also used it for the binding. I hung African round metal beads that I have from the bottom. It is a lovely mat and maybe one day I’ll be able to make it and share it with you.

The way that I try to create beauty, everyday, is by smiling when I catch someone’s eye. They usually smile and that is beautiful.

Serving some good food, thoughtfully prepared, is how I create beauty everyday. I also really try to be kind to everyone I come into contact with throughtout the day, whether it’s just a smile, a sincere hello or thank you.

Besides rug hooking there are many ways I try to create beauty everyday. Since taking the wild with wool course this past fall, I keep it at the fore front of my mind. Besides hooking, I knit. My mother in law is currently in a nursing home and once an avid knitter, I take her my projects to critique and I have helped her to relearn knitting. I also have a huge garden so I organize all my information in a homemade notebook. My grandchildren love helping me add to the pictures. Arranging my root cellar is always a thing of beauty. Another huge love is cooking! I make a full course evening most every night for my husband and I (or any of the offspring). We sit and enjoy each other’s company and the food. Oh, and did I mention photography and doodling! How did I every have time to work.

Thanks for the kind words, Deanne. I’ll love reading these posts about how people create beauty everyday (CBE). I wasn’t a teacher in Texas — just a camper, but ended up, in fact, showing a lot of people at the Yellow Rose of Texas Rug Camp how to hook ‘Deanne Style’. Many took photos of my rug in progress and many told me that I had inspired them to begin incorporating the kind of texture I was adding to my rug (vintage velvet, sari ribbons and yarn, skirt llinings, pieces of a silk ties etc). they seems to love it!! As people walked by where I was sitting they kept feeling my rugs. They couldn’t get enough of the texture and had lots of questions!!! I gave them some Deanne Fitzpatrick bookmarks and directed them to the website.
This Texas adventure happened because I chose to speak to someone at a store!! You just never know what adventure is just around the corner when you ‘put yourself ou there’ and decide to create a beautiful conversation with someone everyday.

Hi first let me say the pendant is beautiful Roberta and Deanne Thank you for sharing it with us. I once would have answered this mush differently than now but after last year I try to find color and beauty in everything down to my spices…so that is everything I look at I look at color and then use my imagination. And my husband is always saying where do you come up with these things you must have an overactive imagination like things for post cards and little quilts or etc. but I cannot help it, it is like chemo kicked my creative self into overdrive and I like it…Have a great day

Creating Beauty Everyday
My husband has Dementia. Everyday, I try and bring a special world, for him to be at peace with. He loves to see my drawings and projects. I do this all, with him in attendance, near me.

Serving food attractively is impt. to me—sometimes the “offerings” are pretty simple, but choosing a particular dish that enhances the food’s look, or choosing a garnish such as a colorful slice of fruit–or even sometimes just cutting a sandwich diagonally into quarters makes the lunch more appealing. Since I cook everyday, (or serve leftovers) there are multiple opportunities for me to think about how to make this food look as beautiful as I can.
