Christmas in Amherst

Dear Diary, Christmas is shaping up in fowntown Amherst.Together as a community of thirty one businesses we offered a passport to downtown Amherst. When you got three stamps on your passport you could enter to win two thousand dollars worth of prizes. The mayor drew for it on Monday.
Last night the curling club at we had the ladies party. One of the women donned a pair of red long underwear and had a tail with a bell attached to it. She was having too much fun with bell. To make it ring she had to shake her bum, so she shook it a lot.

Our town is lit up very pretty, and our new town hall is now open. The local chamber of Commerce held their Christmas gathering there.

There have been concerts and carol sings nearly every weekend in the downtown churches. These are ecumenical services. One was a bluegrass concert, another was a choir, and another included the sackville Citysen’s band. The community is full of life. Lots of events going on all the time.

My first interview for our community radio station airs tonight. We have another interview scheduled this afternoon.

The local restaurants seem full and busy with Christmas parties. Over all I ‘d have to say…it seems a bit like the old days when they called us “Busy Amherst”!

  1. I agree with Julia~ Your town merchants seem to have the right idea~how wonderful for customers! I am dyeing some wool for a cold atlantic sky to hook over the rooftops of a beautiful rug pattern that I just ordered from your shop Deanne called “Five House runner” I am always inspired by your art~your words and now I will have a nice long winter woolie project! Merry Christmas Deanne from New England! ♥E

  2. What fun in your downtown Amherst.
I like the passport idea. Your town has a homy kind of atmosphere and the town Hall looks grand. A very pretty picture.

    Merry Christmas Deanne.
