Look with Lorna

Norma

Norma has been working here for about 5 years now, she is quiet and shy and tries to stay out of any pictures. She loves to play in the dye kitchen, creating new colours, and seeing how different textures work best for dying. Her work basket is full of samples swatches so she can remember how each colour looks, in case next time she wants to experiment by adding a different colour to the mix.

Last January when Deanne decided to offer the online course, Norma thought she would like to take it. Norma being Norma took the course never saying much about what she hooked but that she was enjoying it. Then last week I saw a picture of her rug, it was beautiful and you could tell she was quite proud of it, especially her sky. So yesterday I went to her house to get a few pictures, to my surprise she had completed three rugs during the online course. Well she said ” Deanne talked about stars so here are the stars, then she talked about using different textures so here is that one , then it was on to landscape.

While I was there Norma was showing me some of her other rugs, but stopped to tell me about one in particular, “this one is special ” It was one of Deanne’s patterns but Norma had used her Mother’s old skirt’s for the red in the house, since her Mom had passed away a few years ago it was nice she had this wonderful keepsake. Thanks Norma for letting me have a look at your beautiful rugs.

  1. norma has a very quite wise soul,i think. i love love love thee rugs she hooked.the sky is beautiful. she is someone who reminds me of a tree that in in the forest, weathered over time, has her roots firmly planted , you pass by that tree many times as you walk by then 1 day the way the light comes through the leaves you draw in a quick breath and say my god norma………….you were here all along and you are content to let all the other leaves sparkle and evolve all the while you’re steady and even in your strength.

  5. Oh, so very inspiring! All this; and ‘making colors’ too. Am so impressed by this work – or more clearly – a labor of love. You can see it; and feel it.

  6. Lorna, I love your rugs, especially your stars and your mat on then chair. I have my stars out on my table from the online class. You have inspired me to do them again in a mat. Thanks so much for sharing them with all of us who read the blog. My day is not complete without reading it.

  7. Norma, your rugs are beautiful and to use an article of your Mom’s clothing in a hooked piece makes it very special. You are the quiet one at the studio but you do leave your mark in your own way. Always fun to see what color you have dyed when the next week comes around.
